Church of Scientology fight against teen drug The statistics show a dangerous trend in the abuse of prescription drugs, particularly among adolescents. In Arizona, the local office of the DEA announced this week that Phoenix school students abuse prescription drugs more than hard drugs like cocaine, heroine and methamphetamine. Police in West Virginia announced yesterday that 75% of middle school adolescents to have been exposed to abuse prescription drugs. And a story earlier this week said that sixty percent of teens in Wisconsin have access to controlled substances in and around their homes and 20 percent of them have abused them to get high. Just yesterday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced plans to reduce the risk of illegal use of drugs against pain, citing a 2007 survey shows that in one month, 5.2 million Americans aged 12 years or older used prescription drugs for pain cons of non-medical purposes.
Because the Church of Scientology in the world carry out field activities to help young people make informed choices about drugs, the Church of Scientology International was aware of drug abuse prescription serious threat to the youth of this today and has created a public service announcement to raise awareness to help reverse this trend. This edgy teens video 1 minute impact, exposing the lie that the abuse of prescription drugs is "safe" or "trend" showing its deadly consequences.
This video is part of a series of 16 films produced public service by the Church of Scientology of the nonprofit Foundation for a world without drugs. Illustrating the effects of commonly abused substances, the film also focuses on alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and ecstasy, in addition to the abuse of prescription drugs.
These films are part of a series of educational materials provided by the Foundation include brochures, posters and other teaching materials created by the Church of Scientology for educators of youth groups and government agencies.
Last week, thousands of football fans who converge on Tampa for the Super Bowl and saw two of these anti-drug films in the weekend. These public service announcements appeared with every hour of celebrity interviews, sports and local news clips on two super screens (120 and 400 square feet) built in Ybor City and Channelside Florida, based in London outside pioneer Davenport Hill Broadcasting.
