Drug Help Line

Drug Help LineCan Drinking and drugging help me deal with painful feelings?

Yes, but ...

Nobody complains about feeling happy! But we do not want to have other, painful feelings. When these feelings arise, one way to respond is to drink or drugs. A set of painful feelings can be broadly characterized by fear or anxiety: "Drugs and / or alcohol helped me cope with feelings such as anxiety, tension, fear, stress, restlessness , nervousness, vulnerability, intimidation, embarrassment and panic. "More painful feelings center around the sadness and depression:" They helped me deal with feelings such as depression, sadness, hurt , discouragement, pain, feeling defeated, feeling deprived or feeling of abandonment. "

There are many other painful emotions as well:

frustration), resentment, anger, annoyance, irritability and anger
b) remorse, shame, guilt, responsibility, humiliated
c) feeling disgusted or shocked
d) bored, listless or impatient
e) excitement, Amped Up, "" cool "
f) feeling very tired or exhausted
g) feeling lonely, isolated, cut off, alienated
h) a sense of powerlessness
i) "feeling of pain" without being able to define the pain very well (perhaps a mixture of several painful feelings)

How well do drugs and alcohol work to deal with these painful feelings? For most of us, very well! If you have had experience with alcohol, relax, or coke to give you energy, or simply vicodin help you feel better, you do not need much explanation of these effects. For some, medication immediately create bad feelings more than they solve. Have you ever seen anyone get paranoid after smoking pot or make a line of coke? These people are not likely to turn to drugs (or at least that the drug) to help cope with bad feelings!

But if you read this article, you can be in the group who gets emotional relief of one or more drugs. Do you find yourself thinking:

"It helped me put my feelings into a more normal range. They were just too out of control without it."

"I do not understand why, but I felt an excruciating pain, and when I did the pain was less."

"It helped me cope when I felt I had nothing left inside of me."

So what's wrong with that? Maybe nothing, if you do not often or in large quantities. Have you ever overeat to cope with stress? This overuse is not a big problem if it becomes a habit, a habit, a way of life.

The problems of drug (or overeating) from two factors: 1) Get help did not solve the problem directly (by delaying dealing with it you can have enabled him to get even worse), and 2) drug use is becoming himself, sometimes quickly, a problem in many ways, including having a negative impact on how you fit your family and social group, your health, well- emotional, financial security, your legal status, and other ways you are probably familiar.

However, none of these facts is guaranteed. Maybe delay will actually help. Maybe the medication you use, in quantities and ways of doing so, the causes of evil (think "caffeine").

Thus, the only way to know if the drug you engage in is worth the cost, is to list the benefits of using and operating costs. So think very hard on your lists. If you decide that the costs outweigh the benefits, then it is time for a change.
