protein drinks? I am vegetarian, and I need to do lots of protein. I bought some protein shakes, but they have 250 calories in eight ounces, is this normal? It seems like a lot. Will I get fat consumption of alcohol?
First, you probably have as much protein as you think. And its much better to get it from natural sources rather than over-treatment, calorie and sugar filled drinks protein shakes. They will probably make you gain weight because they are full of sugar that increases appetite and drinks are not really that filling.
First, multiply your weight in kilograms by 0.8 and that is how many grams of protein you need per day. For books in kg divided by 2.2. So I weigh 135 pounds or 61.4 kilograms and 49 grams of protein needed per day.
An egg white contains 6-8 g of protein. I use 3 in an egg white omelet for breakfast. It is already 21 grams on average.
A cup of black beans in a breakfast taco salad contains 15 grams on average. Thats 36 grams.
A cup of skim milk contains about 9 grams. Already it is 45 grams. About 49 I need for the day.
When I started being a vegetarian I received a book entitled The Book All vegetarian and they have all of these gram protein values for a variety of foods. He also had the formula. I do not use it anymore, but it was very helpful at first. Good luck:)
If you drink like water, then probably you will get more calories than you need. But if they are a snack or part of a meal, you should not have a problem.
