What are the side effects of vitamin D as a steroid? I know that vitamin D is not a vitamin, but a secosteroid, what are the side effects of steroid use this? My friend is using it because he believes that, as it is called "Vitamin D is essential as a supplement. Despite explain otherwise. So I would appricate it if someone I could provide details on the ill side effects.
Vitamin D is * not * a steroid.
Steroids have a specific chemical structure. Vitamin D does not have that.
In response to your changes ... exactly. It is not cyclical, it is therefore not a steroid. Call it secosteroid, call a molecular precursor to a steroid ring skeleton, call it. But this is not a steroid. Decyclization significantly alters biological / chemical activity. For some examples that come to mind, see Penicillin (or any of its analogues), prostaglandins, erythronolide, hirsutene, crown ethers, etc.
But just because this is not a steroid does not mean it's not a bad thing. I would add less comments that vitamins can cause similar ailments when taken in excess.

"What are the health risks of too much vitamin D?
Vitamin D toxicity can cause nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, weakness and weight loss [59]. It can also increase blood levels of calcium [6], causing changes in mental status such as confusion. high blood levels of calcium can also cause heart rhythm abnormalities. Calcinosis, the deposition of calcium and phosphate in soft tissues of the body such as kidneys, can also be caused by the toxicity of vitamin D [4]. "
